Neumann KM86s

The Neumann KM86 is my desert island microphone and I’m lucky enough to own a pair of them, albeit from different decades. One of them is from CBS Studios “The Church” in Manhattan. I’ve serviced them both now to have modern tantalum capacitors and after swapping the impedance connections of the transformer from the European 50ohm standard to the US 200ohm, discovered they are very closely matched - or good enough for me.

Sine sweep ~12” from studio monitors. Wow. These are about +/- 1dB throughout even though they were manufactured in different decades.
